Memphis Judo & Jiu-Jitsu's head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Submission Wrestling instructor, Brazilian Top Team blackbelt Adriano Nasal, has been around the submission grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene for over a decade, first in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro and now in Memphis.
Nasal began his training at the insistence of his friends, as he stubbornly resisted. "I began to realize that if I wanted to be around my friends I probably should begin training" Nasal recounts. From that day Nasal never looked back. He began immersing himself in BJJ and from his dedication came a World Championship and a Pan-American Championship.
Shortly after that Nasal was invited to join Brazil's elite training facility and newly formed team, Brazilian Top Team. While at BTT Nasal began a very close friendship with 2 x UFC Middleweight Champion and BJJ legend Murilo Bustamante. Bustamante took Nasal under his wing and began entering him in just about every tournament in the state of Rio. After becoming one of the most winning BJJ and submission wrestling competitors at BTT Nasal was finally awarded his black belt by his mentor.
At this point Nasal opened a gym outside of Rio and began training champions himself. During this time Nasal continued competing and winning some of Brazil's most prestigious events such as the Cyclone Cup and the Brazilian Nationals (3 x Champion) After having achieved his goals as a BJJ & Submission Wrestling competitor Nasal turned his attention and training to the world of MMA.
Nasal moved to the US in 2006 with his wife to work and train at Memphis Judo & Jiu-Jitsu after meeting the school's owner and Submission Sport Grappling Championships promoter David Ferguson. While here Nasal has competed in numerous MMA events such as Elite Xtreme Combat, the Absolute Fighting Championships and the Ring of Combat where he is the current Super-Welterweight champion.
