Considered the premier self-defense and groundfighting art in the world, GBJJ emphasizes positional ground control, throws and submissions such as chokes and armlocks.
The 2000 year old art of Jiu-Jitsu, which began in India, was adopted by Japan, and exported to Brazil in the mid-1920's where the techniques of this ancient art were modified by the Gracie family to reflect more modern self defense situations. GBJJ gained popularity throughout the U.S. and around the world when, in the early 1990's, Royce Gracie defeated practitioners of many other martial arts, many of whom outweighed Gracie by 60+ lbs., in a "no holds barred" setting. From his historic victories, the martial arts have evolved more than any other time in history.
